What's changed in the 2022 rewrite:
ASHER: He's still Asher, but with softer edges. Certain nuances of his character were clarified in this retelling.
SMOOTHING: The book has gone through a big edit and sweeping revision.
BONUS OUTTAKES: There's a small selection of deleted scenes and previously-unpublished snippets and outtakes.
FLASHBACKS: Some of the chapter-opening flashbacks got moved to bonus outtakes. Others kept their role in the evolving story.
WORD COUNT: The length itself didn't change much.
Asher
I never thought Charis Sloane - doctoral student, geek, and my best friend - would stab me to the heart this way.
She and I have always been close. We spend long hours together debating philosophy, gaming, laughing, hanging out.
The fact that Sloane is female and I'm male? I try hard not to pay attention to that. Our connection has always been chaste and innocent. She's where I go to chill, to unwind.
For my dirtier needs I go to my stormy, glitzy girlfriend across campus.
That's the way it's always been. The way I assumed it would always be. Platonic pals forever.
Then I get the news. Sloane has gotten herself engaged.
Engaged to be married.
To some mysterious fiancé she refuses to name.
Now I'm in a race against time to convince her going through with this crazy wedding would be a colossal mistake.
For the first time ever, I'm afraid my cocky charm, my iron abs and my famous "magic hands" won't land me what I want. Who I want.
Because I just got my first clue that my bestie is the one I should have been with all along.
Sloane
Asher - the cockiest college guy on campus, the one who put the "stud" in student - is suddenly single.
I've known Ash since he was a kid, way back before he got all those muscles. I know what he hides behind that brash exterior. Asher Norrell isn't only suave and drop-dead gorgeous, he's loyal, funny, and smart. How can I help but harbor a secret crush?
Alas, it was never happening. To Ash's mind, I'm an academic, a buddy, an older sister type, "one of the dudes." Someone to shoot hoops with, never lock lips with.
That being the case, I saw no reason not to accept an unusual proposal of marriage that came my way.
I assumed my best friend would be pleased for me. Yet he's not taking it well at all.
Too, he seems to have developed an inexplicable interest in tracking my every move. His eyes have gone heated and smoky.
I can only think his recent breakup has traumatized him to the point of brain damage.
Somehow I have to resist the temptation to believe the signs. To believe his promises.
Resist his charm, his determination...
And those damn magic hands.
A hot standalone friends-to-lovers romcom. No cheating or cliffhanger. Expect high heat, bare bodies, and dirty language.
Each book in the Love in New Highland series is a standalone and quite different. They don't need to be read in any order. They all take place in the fictional city of New Highland, Washington.
