Not everyone was born with the same gifts. Some of us are extremely creative. Others are brilliant in math or science. Others are natural writers or healers. The list goes on. In today’s world we tell our children to act normal and not be so smart. I’ve heard parents tell a child to not show their sibling their report card because it will make them feel bad that they didn’t get all A’s.Don’t show grandma your trophy for excellence in art or music because the other kids will feel bad. At what point in time did our country and our world start rewarding mediocrity. I’ve seen teachers not call on kids who raise their hands to answer the teacher’s questions because they are called names afterwards by other students.Welcome Home, Sunny tells a story about an exceptionally smart and gifted child whose gifted mother suffered the same ridicule from her family and peers and made sure that her own precocious child would never have to feel badly that she was unique. She taught her to be proud of her achievements and not try to hide them.
