Love Like Elena: Enemies to Lovers, Second Chance Closed Door: A Romance Novella

Then, the door opened, and a man walked into the room. Elena could tell the man was staring at her, but she couldn't. She noticed that the woman had greeted the man, but the man raised a hand, and she stopped. The man's smile rocked her boat when Elena was about to speak, and her confidence level went flat.
“Elena Rice, right?” the man asked.
“Yes, sir,” Elena responded as she looked up and saw that it was him, Jose Cruz.
Nothing had changed about the man he had loved to hate, not even his charming smile that inflicted pain on her.
"Elena will work in my office. She will be my assistant," Jose said.
Elena recalled that incident in their high school and how she had vowed never to let anything bring her close to Jose again.
“Do you remember we were high school lovers? How many years now? Have you forgotten about how you loved me?”
“That was then. Not anymore.”
"What do you mean, not anymore? You wanted me then, and I think I want you now,"
“Mr. Cruz, that was then. Maybe then, I was stupid to have had a feeling for you. Whatever it was, it is now history. It should remain in the past, please,”
"What do you mean by history when all I can see is the present?
"Don't," she firmly said, "touch me. Don't, else, I’ll file complaints for workplace harassment."
Jose was stunned. He felt embarrassed even though they were the only two in the office.
Has Jose lost Elena for good? Will he ever get her back?
