TWO BONDS by Candice M. Martin, Cuqi Publications
I turned like a wolf and darted through the forest on all fours. It's almost exhilarating how liberating and wonderful it feels to be in my wolf shape. I will always feel free because I have spent the majority of my life as a rogue. I relished every moment of having freedom without any pack obligations or Alphaship.
"Go faster, Gale. Run faster." I plead with my wolf, and she quickens her pace.
Feeling the cool breeze blow through my midnight blue wolf fur makes me incredibly delighted. When it comes to running in our wolf form, my wolf, Gale, and I are similar. With the forest all around us, we both feel at ease. Our senses come alive when we smell pine, clean air, and moist dirt.
At the bank of a serene lake, the gale gradually stops and begins to slow down. It looks so cool and refreshing in the water. My wolf, dipping her head to take a drink, is thinking along the same lines. She exhales with satisfaction, feeling the cool water trickle down her throat. Just thinking about how refreshing the water must be makes me thirsty.
My inner voice says, "Let's shift back."
"Okay."
I transform back into a human, and Gale remains in my head. I adjust my black leather jacket, pulling up the collar as my jet black hair flows down my back. After that's resolved, I get down on my knees, pick up some water, and swiftly drink it. I feel rehydrated and revitalized after drinking the cool liquid that slides down my throat. I breathe and relax by the water. I can unwind here because of the tranquility of the surrounding woods. There's nothing superior about this.
To Gale, I say, "It's so peaceful."
"Yeah, it's very peaceful. The Alpha of this territory is very lucky." responds Gale.
At her words, I tens up, my breath catching in my throat. After what she said, I'm practically out of breath. Area. I anxiously inquire, "What do you mean by that, Gale?"
"We're on someone's territory, duh. Didn't you notice?" replied Gale.
No, no, no. This is quite detrimental. They won't exactly welcome me with open arms if a rogue like me gets captured on pack territory. They will, nevertheless, greet me with open arms. ...but that will simply be to try to apprehend me and torment me till I'm reduced to a gruesome jumble!
I growl, getting to my feet and getting ready to depart. "I have to get out of here,"
I'm about to shift when I hear a branch shatter behind me and a loud snarl.
Yes, I know this is incredibly corny, but that doesn't make it any less scary.
Without any delay, Gale assumes command, transforms into our wolf form, and sets off at her fastest pace. Moments afterward, a massive, terrifying, black wolf appears from behind some bushes and starts to pursue us. Gale rushes across the trees in all directions, whimpering in terror. I'm starting to panic because I'm starting to fear getting caught. Still, I try not to lose my cool and encourage Gale to continue.
"Run faster, Gale! Please run faster!" I beseech you.
Gale sobs and accelerates her jogging beyond her usual pace. "I'm going as fast as I can! Oh crap, it's gaining on us! Waa!"
