The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford
Ford Madox Ford wrote The Good A Tale of Passion in 1915. It covers the narrative of two couples, the Dowells and the Ashburnhams, and is set in the years preceding World War I. In order to treat Florence's purported heart issue, the American couple The Dowells fly to a health spa in Nauheim, Germany. They make friends with the Ashburnhams, Edward and Leonora, who appear to also have heart problems, in the spa, and keep that friendship for a long time. John Dowell serves as the book's narrator, and it is told non-chronologically with flashbacks and foreshadowing. As the reader progressively discovers more about the characters and their interactions, a sense of mystery and suspense is created.
