Offtrack by Esha Patel
At the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1 driver Miguel de la Fuente is inches from the championship title, crown jewel in his family’s racing legacy. The plan is he’s learned the competition, and this season will be his. But when Miguel’s idol and opponent Eddie Palomas meets with an unexpected race incident that causes him to leave the sport, one of only twenty seats in Formula 1 opens up at a top team. Miguel thought he had the grid figured out, but Eddie’s old team has other plans. This sudden development lands rookie Diana Zahrani in the fastest sport in the world. Miguel, none too sure what to make of this change, is instructed to be careful with Diana during racing sessions, as are the rest of the drivers. However, her arrival is much, much more than another seat swap; it could be a masterstroke. Diana is a talented driver who races without abandon and with passion, and Miguel can’t help but notice that passion seems extremely familiar. So maybe Miguel doesn’t want to be careful. Maybe he, like Diana, wants to take a chance on something new.Packed with drama, deja vu, controversial decisions, accidents, and paddock scuffles, Diana’s first season in Formula 1 pushes the grid to their limits. Miguel and Diana must determine for the sake of their teams where their priorities lie in the heat of a defining world championship that can change everything—on and offtrack.
