A young and childless American couple about to divorce in Las Vegas are guided through three important lessons at Christmas by a mysterious angel...who sends them through time and space to endure trials by fire in different historical periods in hopes of re-securing their fading marriage. Gertie, the angel, appears in different guises in different eras, from the Gold Rush days of Skagway, Alaska, to a violent hurricane in Mobile, Alabama, during which they must save someone calling for help in the woods.
