Henry “Perk” Perkins, after serving in the military and then as a police officer for several years, has finally found the perfect job with S.O.S. The folks at S.O.S. don’t treat him like a newbie or a green kid like his previous colleagues. Despite his boyish appearance, this group treats him like a valuable part of the team, and he couldn’t be happier. Well…he could be, if one prickly FBI agent would take his attentions seriously. She has a hard outer casing, but she’s not the toughest nut he’s ever had to crack. Eventually, with luck and perseverance, he’ll break through her tough shell.
Agent Sloane Vessers has built her reputation on being unapproachable. That way, she rationalizes, she’ll never get hurt again. Other than her best friend Melissa, she doesn’t let anyone close, so when one very compelling young man starts making overtures, she knows her best bet is to shut him down. Why, then, is she having such a hard time convincing him—and herself—that putting distance between them is crucial? Is she simply flattered by his unflagging attention, or is it something deeper?
