The Charlatan by D.K. Hamlin, Hyperion Knight
INTRODUCING A TIMELESS MASTERPIECE

Now appearing for the first time in English, The Charlatan, a tale of high drama, forbidden love, medicine, and mystery, was the masterpiece of Polish novelist Tadeusz Dolega-Mostowicz.

Set in 1930s Warsaw, an era of prosperity and aristocracy, renowned heart surgeon Rafal Wolf suffers a heartbreak that culminates in severe memory loss. His amnesia then makes him a mystery not only to himself but to the outside world, leading to shocking developments that leave both the peasants and the aristocrats he encounters equally bewildered.
This incredible story has been captivating audiences in Poland since the original novel “Znachor” was first published in 1937. Two film adaptations have met with such success that in 2023 Netflix adapted the novel into a miniseries called “Forgotten Love.”

The author, Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz, was one of Poland's most prominent novelists, but he was killed at the peak of his literary career by the invading Soviet Army at the outset of World War II in 1939. Most of his books were then banned by the Soviet-imposed communist regime.

This is the first ever translation of “Znachor” into the English language.

American readers are now able to discover for themselves why, for so many decades, the people of Poland have revered “The Charlatan” as one of their cultural treasures.
