Baron Wolf’s estates are mortgaged to the hilt, but he has always muddled along somehow – until his young brother incurs a huge debt of honour that neither of them can pay. A friend introduces Wolf to a rich city merchant who is willing to lend to indigent aristocrats in return for their favour. Only then she vanishes in the company of thieves, and the hunted baron becomes the hunter.
Finding her is not the end, however, for she is injured and can’t even remember her name. Or is she just pretending…?
