Escape of the Bridegroom by Mary Lancaster
This bride refuses to be left behind…

Baron Wolf’s estates are mortgaged to the hilt, but he has always muddled along somehow – until his young brother incurs a huge debt of honour that neither of them can pay. A friend introduces Wolf to a rich city merchant who is willing to lend to indigent aristocrats in return for their favour. What he doesn’t realize in time, is that the favour is marriage with the cit’s plain daughter.

Tricked, trapped, and furious, Wolf marries the girl and abandons her the same day while he goes about his life as before. When the new Lady Wolf, with an agenda of her own, simply tracks him down to Lady Grandison’s party, he determines to teach her a lesson.

Only then she vanishes in the company of thieves, and the hunted baron becomes the hunter.
Finding her is not the end, however, for she is injured and can’t even remember her name. Or is she just pretending…?
