I’m really not the type to pine. Pining is for romantic comedies and starry-eyed Omegas who write their names next to their crushes in glittery journals. Not me. In my world, “love” is just a four-letter word you casually toss around after too many drinks.

His name is Landon. That’s about all I manage to learn before he shuts me down with a tight, polite smile and the kind of look you’d give an overenthusiastic stranger at the grocery store. The connection is there, undeniable and electric, but he makes it clear in less than a I’m not what he’s looking for.

Rejection is supposed to be easier when you don’t let yourself care, but somehow Landon gets under my skin anyway. Maybe it’s the way he says my name. Maybe it’s the way his eyes linger just a little too long, even when he’s trying to pull away. Or maybe it’s the fact that no matter how hard I try to ignore this connection I can’t.

For the first time, I’m starting to wonder if love isn’t just a fantasy. But chasing after Landon might be the most reckless thing I’ve ever done—and the one thing that could ruin me for good.
