I show up at Rising Star RanchTherapy and Riding School with my six-year-old daughter, a pile of bills, and the desperate need for a job.
Rhett takes one look at me and decides I’m “not ranch material.”
Which is hilarious, because I decide he’s “not human material.”

About horses.
About routines.
About the correct number of times a man is allowed to scowl before it’s medically concerning.
But then tension turns into heat, and heat turns into one night we definitely shouldn’t have had.
Now I’m pregnant.
And Rhett reacts by… softening.
Teaching my 6 yr old, Maddie to feed the horses.
Looking at me like he’s already picturing a future I’m terrified to hope for.
