Jonas Mast left Whispering Pines five years ago with a promise to return before winter. He didn't keep it.

Now he's back; older, quieter, carrying tools and regret in equal measure, and the woman he left without a word is standing in a farmyard with a bee veil in her hands, looking at him as if he's a fence that needs mending. Which, if he's honest, he is.

Rebekah Schlabach hasn't asked anyone for anything in a long time. She runs her father's farm, tends his hives, and keeps her own counsel. She certainly isn't going to ask Jonas Mast why he's come back. She's learned what happens when you wait for answers that don't arrive.

But the hives are failing. The community's orchard, and its future, depends on them. And Jonas knows bees the way Rebekah knows this deep in his bones, beneath the words he can't seem to find.

Working together was always the easy part. It's everything they're not saying that could cost them a second chance.
