On New Year's Day, 2050, she celebrated her 50th birthday, and she will be performing in her 50th contiguous US state during the cruise. After that, she will retire to her Northwoods house and spend her time at an easel in the back yard with a glass of wine, painting pictures of the flora and fauna, free of the pressures of schedules and demands. But a certain stalker and a well-known journalist both put a kink in her plans, literally and figuratively.
Laci Laroo is fresh off her last undercover gig for The Daily Pulse. As an investigative journalist, she infiltrated the Luddite terrorist group, and nearly got herself killed. After she recovers, her editor sends her on the Pacifica maiden voyage, to ease her way back into her job by doing a puff piece on the ship. Not at all what she had in mind for getting back to work. While onboard, she crosses paths with Zeta, and sparks fly just as easily as Laci's clandestine bug drone.
As events unfold, both women are entertaining the idea of something more, but first, they have to figure out who's trying to kill Zeta.
