Collateral: A Dark Mafia Romance
Terri Stern
Having spotted his illegal activities, Miriam is abducted by Nate at a suspicious activity review, and held as collateral until the firm returns his money. Impossibly, her employer agrees, leaving her in Nate's clutches with a promise to rescue her somehow.
Nate is enticing, arrogant, and unfortunately fun to verbally spar with, and he deems Miriam his new lucky charm. Taking her along with him to meetings and parties, Miriam navigates the criminal underworld with Nate as her guide, and tormentor, entangled in his confidence and illegal activities in equal measure. While she doesn’t want to besmirch her legal standing, she can stomach the champagne and fast cars lifestyle for a couple of weeks - or until the police finally come and save her.
But there are worse things than Nate’s ego waiting in the shadows. Someone doesn't like Nate's attention being shared, and his last partner wound up dead when his jealous brother got too possessive. Miriam has no interest in getting drawn into the powerplays of the criminal families, but others have already noticed her being brought into Nate’s world, and it may no longer be her choice. She must balance the hope of escape and returning to her old life with the cost of survival in the bloody struggle between brothers.
This is a first-person point of view, enemies to lovers, mafia and captor romance. This darker elements of this story are more in depth than my other novels which is why this is the first in the Dark Delights series.
