EXCERPT The streets around them were silent and empty, only the occasional car drove past, appearing and disappearing quietly. The night was cool, and Olivia enjoyed the feeling of the cool air as it poured over her shoulders, down her back, and over her bare legs. She looked over at David and found that he was looking at her, a mischievous grin on his face. For the last few hours she had been able to forget that she was a cop and he a gang member. She had gotten to know the man behind the bike, and she had liked what she found. “Well, this is me,” she said, gesturing to her tall building. David stood in front of her and then took a step closer until he was less than a foot away. It was their meeting in Hillary’s trailer all over again. Except they weren’t in some gross trailer. They were outside on a beautiful night with a thousand stars all above them. And unlike the trailer, David didn’t hesitate or second-guess himself. He leaned forward and kissed Olivia gently, placing his lips on her for just a second. He waited for her to hit him or kick him, but instead, she leaned forward and kissed him back. less

Strain. David hasn’t spoken to Olivia since it happened. She doesn’t know how to get through to him but he needs to know the truth. But if she can’t get through to him then David wont know that there is still a mole in the God’s Reapers. Betrayal. As far as he’s concerned, Olivia betrayed him and he wasn’t sure he could forgive. David could feel tears in his. He would never let them fall, but they were there. Tears for everything he had ever loved and held dear that had just crashed around him. “I’m sorry about coming to your apartment and attacking you. I can make all these excuses for what I did, but I won’t do that. I was wrong and I did the wrong thing and I’m sorry.” “I looked for you at the raid,” Olivia said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I was frantic looking for you. I was terrified I was going to find you in handcuffs. I was so relieved when your name wasn’t on the list of people arrested. I don’t want you to go to jail. You don’t belong there.” “Where do I belong?” he asked, walking towards her and destroying the space that had grown between them. “My only home was this club, and now it’s in pieces.” He was in front of her again. Again, there was only inches between them. David brought his hand up and caressed her cheek, letting his rough hands touch her soft skin. She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch. His hand moved to her chin, and he held it lightly, moving her towards him. The kiss was like none they had before. It was soft and gentle and slow. He pressed his bruised and cut lips against her perfect ones. Gently, they kissed under the moonlight. less

Follow. Olivia is done following orders and being left out of the loop. The secrecy and lies are too much and Olivia is ready to start revealing them to get what she wants. If revealing who the mole is in the God’s Reapers is what its going to take to get David back then so be it. Find. David has been sent away. Trust is a fragile thing and hard to rebuild but David is determined to get back in the God’s Reapers’ good graces and to do so he’ll have to really assess his relationships and understand which people mean the most to him. Return. It was time for Olivia and David to be out in the open together. Together they had big plans to get what they want and their combined skills and determination will make them unstoppable, or, at least they think so. Things are never as easy as they seem- will they be able to finally overcome? EXCERPT Olivia jumped from her couch when she heard the knock at her door. She checked the peephole and then threw the door open and catapulted herself into David’s arms. He laughed as he was forced back a step, but he buried his face in her hair and wrapped his arms tightly around her. For a moment, he forgot about everything else in the world. “Ahem,” an annoyed voice whispered, as an elderly lady and her little white poodle walked past them. However, Olivia still didn’t turn away. She just smiled and looked up at David, and he leaned down and planted a kiss on her lips that turned into a deeper kiss, as Olivia buried her hands in his hair and pulled him closer. “Am I allowed inside?” David finally asked as the kiss broke. “Yeah, I guess,” Olivia said with a smile. She took his hand and led the way, pulling him in with her. “So how did it go with the Reapers?” Olivia asked, perching on the arm of her couch. “It went,” David said, not sure what else to say. “They don’t like the idea of you and me.” “Oh,” Olivia said, and the smile slipped from her face. “My captain wasn’t thrilled about the idea either.” “What do you think?” David asked. “I think that I love you and I want to be with you,” Olivia said. As her dark eyes found his, she hoped he could hear the honesty and sincerity in her voice and see it in her eyes. “I don’t know that I care what anyone else thinks. And I know how naïve that sounds, but”—she shrugged her shoulders and gave him a crooked grin—“I know what I want. I want you, and I don’t really care if people have a problem with it.” There, she had said it out loud. There was no taking it back, and it had felt wonderful to say. Suddenly, all of those songs that talked about love made sense to her. It didn’t matter if the world didn’t agree; it didn’t matter what her job was. She loved him—and maybe that could be enough. less
