Elizabeth, an American Widow in her 60s, staying at the Hotel Marcel in Paris, is able to observe, from her 5th floor balcony room, the luxurious apartments across the street. Love affairs, dinner parties, even criminal acts are in full view, lighted at night as if on a spot-lit stage, as she watches over the treetops from her perch above the avenue.

Elizabeth, an American Widow in her 60s, in residence again at the Hotel Marcel in Paris, finds an exciting romantic liaison. During her sojourn, she also encounters a deceptive English woman involved in art fraud, and a young African-American in search of his French father. Even a violent murder happens during her stay, and she witnesses the opening of a grand, new hotel next door, named The Majestic. This all takes place in the month of May in Paris, the City of Light.
