EXCERPT:
“Oh, bother all that rot. Just don’t leave my bed again.” Malcolm turned her over and pulled her against him. She could feel his desire and she smiled into his kisses.
“Not even if I want to see the sun?”
“I will build us a house with an open roof so you can see the sun from our bed.”
Her body buzzed with anticipation and desire as he continued to kiss her. She pushed him onto his back and sat atop him.
“And what if I don’t like the rain?”
“You will like the rain. It will be the only thing to wash us, since we will never leave our bed.”
“And what if I wish to see the ocean?”
Malcolm smiled and took her head in his hands. He pulled her down to kiss her and released her to sit up again.
“Then I will build you a house on a cliff, by the water, with windows so big, you’ll be able to see the sea from every corner of our bed.”
She laughed and nuzzled down atop him, letting her body cradle him. His sharp breath warmed her.
“We will have to leave the bed sometime, I am certain.”
He returned her mirth and rocked against her. “Just promise me, if we do have to leave this bed, you’ll always let me rise first.” He kissed the top of her head. “I never want to wake without you here again, not for the rest of our lives.”
A pang of sadness rose in Lilian’s chest and she embraced him. She wished she could make that dream come true. But today would likely be their last day together. The following day, if her husband was correct, they would be in Hoorn by mid-afternoon.
And she would either abandon him or be caught. Either way, they would never wake side by side again.
