Excerpt:

Donny laughed. “Oh, Cam, come off it. You recognize me, don’t you?”

Cam peered into his face, unsure now of anything he had thought he knew. Donny had looked familiar, hadn’t he? He shook his head, unable to place him.

“Italy, Cam,” Donny said. “Milan, don’t you remember? Da Vinci’s party...”

It all came crashing back to Camnael in a dizzying blur. It had been towards the end of the fifteenth century, around the same time that he had been busy patching together the relationship of Ferdinand and Isabella. Now that had been a tough assignment. But that could only mean--

“You’re not mortal.” The pieces began to fit themselves together, clicking into place in Cam’s mind. He had met Donny at one of Da Vinci’s showings at court. The incident stuck out at him because everybody was talking about the artist’s new lover, and Cam had been interested to see who could have won the heart of the famous painter. A professional interest, of course, solely as an angel of love would be interested. He remembered looking over and seeing those dark eyes across the room, that dimple.

“Not quite,” Donny said.

“You’re an angel?” Cam was still confused.

“Not...quite.” Donny grinned, gesturing around him. “Did you even notice the decor in here?”

Cam’s heart sank. He had been so stupid.

“A demon,” he whispered, and knew at that moment that it was true. Horribly, terribly true. Donny was a demon, and Cam had fallen headlong into every single one of his traps.
