She wasn’t tired, she never slept, so she watched the men settle into their bedrolls as night fell. Their faces relaxed; their snores deepened. She supposed sleep was a lot like the way she could turn off her senses at will. She could see and hear things, but her brain simply stopped processing any of it.

“Pssst.” A hand clamped onto her arm.

She recognized Bucky’s face in the glow of the firepit. Confused, she waited to see what he wanted.

“Were you waiting up for me, doll?” He squeezed her thigh. “I wanted to come sooner, but I had to wait until the others were asleep.” His thick fingers fumbled as he untied her ropes. Grasping her wrist, he yanked her to her feet and forced her to stumble in front of him away from the camp until the glow from the fire disappeared.

“That’s far enough,” he whispered. “Any farther and your collar will trigger the alarm.” He pushed her onto her knees. “Open that sweet mouth of yours. We don’t have a lot of time.”
