A hip injury gives Basil an excuse to stay off the football field, and also sends him into the hands of Lucien, a handsome physical therapist with amazing hands. Basil embarrasses himself with an unintended physical reaction on the therapist's table, but the more they get to talking, the more he genuinely likes the guy. They have a common interest in medicine and helping people, and Basil can get his famous football-player father to help Lucien on an ad project. But Basil hasn't told Lucien that he's never met his father, and now that he questions his own sexuality, he's even more scared to meet him.

Basil isn't the first Stanford football player to physically respond to Lucien's therapeutic touch. But he's the first to have a great conversation with Lucien and offer to accompany him to his one great passion, volunteering at a free clinic at UCSF. Lucien dropped out of UCSF when he lost his previous boyfriend, and he's not sure whether he can love again, much less study medicine again.

Basil's father, left Basil and his mother with more questions than answers, and only a credit card that they were free to use. He's been avoiding contact with Basil because he doesn't know whether Basil can accept the secret about his macho NFL dad.
