Josie (The Kenrick Brides #4)
Sherri Beth Johnson

Josie is Book Four in The Kenrick Brides Series. Here is an excerpt of her story…
“How do you do, Miss Courtney?” Ned asked.
I couldn’t be truthful so I merely nodded and accepted his hand. He bent over to kiss my hand, and my father didn’t even complain or stop him. He smelled rather sour, and although he was nicely dressed, I had to wonder what that smell was from.
“Josephine, Ned here is going to school for embalming. He finishes in the spring,” my father bragged.
I smiled and nodded and then paused. “Oh, what for?” I asked, feeling my stomach lurch up into my throat.
“Embalming. You know, for the deceased,” Ned smiled proudly.
I felt faint. “Oh, that… embalming,” I stuttered. I looked at my father, and I had to wonder if he had ever loved me.
He smiled and nodded for me to continue talking with the …undertaker. He expected me to keep talking to him. I suddenly felt completely deflated and discouraged about the prospects and our lives here in Crawford.
Just then Diana walked by on the arm of her handsome young gentleman with the strikingly blue eyes. Did God play favorites too?
I couldn’t do this. “Oh please, dear God, do not let this be your plan for me,” I begged silently.
What will Josie’s future hold for her? Perhaps…God has a sense of humor.
