Isabelle Lamarck is a trained French chef who cannot cook in restaurants. Lured by money and the promise to be the exclusive chef for a banker and wife she travels to a small town in Texas. Soon, all the citizens of Star are embroiled in chaos. The banker leaves with his wife to find help for her at a hospital for the insane.

Alone at the house, Isabelle decides to use her pastry skills to raise money to return home. When Hank moves in with rules on how he wants things run, she fights her temper and temptation as the man lures her to a fate she has avoided for years.

When she sees a chance to run a restaurant and bakery in town, the dream she has always wanted, it means fleeing the man she is attracted to. Then he makes it clear he desires her, but has nothing to offer a woman and would never consider marriage.

With her heart full of longing for what could never be, she settles for creating a business and successful life in town away from temptation. Hank wants to avoid the woman but is drawn into spending every minute helping her in one way or another. As their lives and desires become hopelessly tangled, Hank prays they both survive.
