As Kiera mourns the death of her friend, she shuts herself away from the world, fearing that those once dear to her have been lost forever. One evening after returning from a solitary walk, Luke tells Kiera that she must accompany him to a Vampyrus Ball, hosted by Mr. Espen Drake and his fiancée, Miss Laura pepper.
Knowing that she will be the only werewolf in attendance, Kiera is reluctant to go to the Ball. But after some persuasion from Doctor Ravenwood, Kiera agrees to attend. It is only then that Kiera discovers Luke has a secret reason for wanting to attend the Ball. He has been invited there by an anonymous client.
But when Kiera unmasks this mysterious client, she is filled with panic as she fears secrets about her murderous past might finally be revealed and unravel the secret pact that she has with her husband, Luke Bishop.
