“I don’t date.”

“And you don’t do that."

I let all of the air out of my lungs. “Past tense?”

Her nod was almost imperceptible. “You got in. I don’t know how.” She chewed her lip as she peered down. “But you've crashed through my defenses.”

I reached out and swiped my thumb over her chin as I tilted it upward, bringing her gaze back to mine. “Thank you.”

Her throat bobbed as she swallowed. “What for?”

“For trusting me.”

“I don’t do that well.”

“I know. Neither do I. But, Bella, you got in, too.”

Her lips curled up on one side. “Now what?” she asked in a whisper.
