June Bug Taylor: A Western Adventure (A June Bug Taylor Western #1)
Cherokee Parks

The 1880s were a hard time for many of the people of Texas, as the aftermath of the Civil War ran deep. Men who had returned home from the war in body only haunted the landscape of the state, some physically injured as well as mentally damaged. Those who spent time in the Union prisoner of war camps, such as Camp Douglas, seemed to have the most trouble coping, as the ghosts of friends who died there and the memories of the horrid conditions they survived still lingered in their minds long after their release at the end of the war.
Their families suffered right along with the soldiers themselves. One family was the Taylors, specifically June Bug Taylor. When his father failed to return home from another drunken bout, June Bug decided to find him. He learned that his father wasn’t alone, but had joined with three other survivors of Camp Douglas, and they were riding north. Catching up with the four men, he learned they intended to settle the score with a brutal guard who had abused them at the camp. June Bug quickly became entangled in the trouble that followed, even going on the run with them. But he was determined to stand with the only family he had left.
