Bear Willis: Mountain Man: Savages And Scoundrels: A Mountain Man Adventure by Peter Alan Turner
It’s 1840, and Bear, his son, and their two Irish wolfhounds travel to Green River, Wyoming, for the Spring Rendezvous. Along the way, grizzlies stampede their horses, and Bear’s party is forced to hide their furs and walk to the Rendezvous. Upon arriving, they find out that the fur trade has fallen on hard times. The demand for beaver and the price per pelt are at their lowest levels ever. All the trappers and mountain men who have depended on the beaver for a living are looking for other ways to earn money.

Bear sends Smokey, one of his friends, back to recover their furs. But when Smokey fails to return, what was supposed to be a pleasant trip turns into a deadly game. Bear rushes back to their camp only to find Smokey dead. While Bear is gone, the Carlos brothers show up with Bear’s pelts. Bear returns to the Rendezvous, only to learn that the Carlos brothers stole his pelts and killed Smokey. Bear swears revenge and, in a rage, leaves the Rendezvous, searching for his friend’s killers.

To complicate things, Bear’s son, Eric, has fallen for Sara, the daughter of Blake Andrews, the owner of a traveling brothel. When Eric learns Sara has run away, he rides off searching for her. Bear and Eric finally join forces and, together with their fierce Irish wolfhounds, fight savages and scoundrels, not knowing this would be their last Spring Rendezvous.
