But Frederick gets caught–and one little white lie swiftly leads to disastrous consequences. Against his will, Frederick is drawn into a complicated web of lies and deceit, and suddenly everything is at stake…

An extract from the story:
For a moment no one said a word, and we all stared at Emma as if she had suddenly proclaimed that the British Empire was secretly ruled by an unknown maharaja and his seven monkeys in India and not by Queen Victoria.
What? I thought before I closed my mouth with a snap. It was an outrageous lie. No one would believe her for more than a second, I concluded with a sinking feeling. However, I was wrong, utterly wrong.
“I beg your pardon?” Father exclaimed and stared at Emma as if he could not believe his ears.
“Is it true, Frederick?” My mother gasped and placed her hand over her generous bosom.
Even the servant in the doorway made a small surprised sound before he withdrew with a polite bow.
And then everyone started talking at the same time in a cacophony of voices.
