It's the evening of Eric Roth's 25 year service anniversary as a police officer and he's spending it hiding in his office reading smut. (In his defence, it started out as research.)
Downstairs, at the party in his honour, his boss Count Andrey Ambrose waits for him. Roth has been avoiding the man for weeks now. After falling into bed with him and letting Ambrose drink his blood two weeks ago, Roth can hardly look the Count in the eye. That night Roth discovered a side of himself that scares him as much as it intrigues him. But all his research (including the book he's reading) can only go so far.
