Once Caroline arrived in Dodge City, she realized how dangerous the place was but it was too late to return home. Just as they were married David was shot in the shoulder by a drunken cowboy. Instead of going to David’s ranch they would have to spend several weeks living in his law office in Dodge City. They survived an ambush from a dangerous gang unhappy with David.
