“I have promised not to hurt you. Can you not tell me what path you were on when you found this island? Perhaps we were on the same path. Were you shipwrecked as well?” he pleaded desperately.
I shook my head. “That is why I cannot tell you! I can trust no one. I can tell you I have been here for three months,” I said with tears filling my eyes. I wanted to help him; I truly did. But knowing my past would only endanger him and would give him no clues as to who he was. “Your memory will come back to you in time, but please, do not force me to remember the horrors of how I arrived here,” I pleaded, turning away from him.
Warm and gentle hands turned me back around. He was so close; his strong arms beckoned me. Tears streamed down my cheeks. If only I could trust him.
