Autumn Moon by Marcella DiPaolo
It’s the beginning of the Revolutionary War, and in South Carolina. The British have made their selves at home in Sweetwater, a tiny little town between Charleston and Savannah. The citizens aren’t too thrilled with the red coats who patrol their town and give them orders as to what they can and cannot do…they know that shots were fired in Concord and Lexington against the King of England. If they’re not going to treat us like citizens of England, then the colonists weren’t going to follow the rules of England.

Hayden Livingston, Cooper Edwards, and Carter Montgomery take on the redcoats their own way. They mess with in little ways…letting their horses loose, setting their straw on fire, stopping their supply wagons, putting molasses in the soldiers’ boots…the British lieutenant colonel was incensed at all the pranks that were being served on his soldiers. He set rules and curfews on the citizens of Sweetwater. And then they started bothering the ladies of the town. Hayden, Cooper, and Carter stood up for them and saved several women from being raped. It got so bad they had to hide in the swamps from the British soldiers, so the women would be safe. Neely Hunter was a healer, and she came to know the three men. Marta…Meg…Lyssa also came to live in the swamp with them, so did their husbands. A new rule was set down by the British, if you didn’t fight with the redcoats, they would arrest you and put you in their prison. The citizens of Sweetwater didn’t want to fight against their friends and neighbors…what were they to do?

Hayden, Cooper, and Carter had to come up with a plan to keep the citizens safe and the British off their backs. They had to decide how they were going to fight against the British and keep their friends safe at the same time. They also had to learn how to balance falling in love in wartime and making a new life when their whole world was being destroyed by the British one step at a time.
