Why didn’t you go to the clubhouse or something?” “I can’t protect you from the clubhouse.” “What did you think was going to happen? I’ve known Anna and Chrysta for a couple of years and they haven’t tried to kill me yet.” “I wasn’t worried about them. If I were, I would have never left the apartment. Don’t worry about it. How was your evening?” “It was okay.” He took a sip of his wine, grimacing slightly at the sour taste before setting it on the coffee table. Yes… a beer would be much better. She took a sip then carefully placed her water on the table—the glass only wobbling slightly—before she turned to look at him. “Just okay?” he asked with a grin. This girl needs to loosen up and learn how to party! “Yeah.” She looked at her hands. Why not? He is here, and I’m here and lubricated with wine. I really, really want him. She moved to a kneeling position on the sofa, facing him. He watched her warily. What is she up to? She shifted herself closer until their faces were almost touching, as she moved her hand up to gently cup his face. Her eyes were darting from his eyes to his lips, and it was clear what she wanted. He didn’t know what to do. He was attracted to her, that much was true, but she was slightly drunk, and her inhibitions were lowered…and that could lead to a whole mess of trouble. less

He backed John, but he didn’t like it. I want to back John. The club follows his lead, but if he doesn’t get on top of this Hamasaki situation, there is going to be no club left to lead.” “Maybe I should go talk to him. He won’t hurt me.” “No. We’re in this together now. What we do, we do together.” Jenny rose from her chair and lowered herself to the floor beside Asher. “I’m sorry.” He gently pulled away from her, stood, and pulled her to her feet and into his arms. “I’m not.” “But your club.” “If we solve this Hamasaki shit, they will see it was for the best.” “And if they don’t?” He smiled down at her. “I still have you. Maybe I can be your bodyguard and assistant, or something, when you become a big-shot, high-profile lawyer. I work cheap.” Jenny snickered. “Protect me during the day, warm my bed at night? That sort of thing?” “If that works for you.” She reached behind his head and pulled his lips to hers. “You’ve done pretty well so far.” She pulled back, her blood already rushing. Asher had given up everything that was important to him for her, and done it without hesitation or resentment. Compared to the other lovers she has had, he stood head and shoulders above them all, not only physically, but emotionally and in maturity, as well. She stepped back from him, smiled, and took another half-step back before she reached to his hand and pulled him with her down onto the bed. Hamasaki would just find another stooge and the meddling will continue. We, the three clubs, will probably have to do a scorched earth on this to end it.” “When?” “I don’t know. Soon. There are a lot of details to work out.” When Jenny didn’t answer, Asher changed the subject. “How did the studying go?” “Okay. But now my brain is mush.” “You should get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be another busy day.” “That’s why I have been waiting on you. I can’t switch off. I need something to take my mind off school.” He smiled at the invitation in her tone. “What did you have in mind?” “I’m sure you’ll think of something.” “Shall I tell you a bedtime story?” “That will be nice. Something with a happy ending,” she said as her hand drifted down his torso, caressing him gently as she began to kiss his chest. Asher breathed deep as Jenny’s lips danced. “Mmmm…” he rumbled as she pulled back. “You like that?” “Very much.” “Want some more?” she breathed, her breath tickling his lips. “Much more.” Her kiss was much firmer and more demanding this time, and he welcomed it. He rolled into her, pushing her up on her side then clasped her firmly to him before rolling onto his back again, drawing her onto his chest, her legs going to either side of his hips. “I love you,” he whispered. less
